Discovering the wolf

A special way and completely different than usual to spend the weekend, totally immersed in nature in the Abruzzo National Park, to discover the wolf. Excursions in search of the most significant traces of the predators, the Apennine Wolf, that in the Park has found the perfect place to live and reproduce. One predator extraordinary that fortunately has returned to repopulate the mountain areas in Italy. We will know the wolves, we will study the life and habits, we will try listening and the observation in nature.

When

Febraury 2017, from Saturday 18 to Sunday 19. In partnership with Ecotur. Minimum number of participants: 4 persons.

Difficulties description

First day in altitude: 300 m; Distance about 8 km

Second day. Difference in height: 200 m;Distance: about 10 km

Equipment

Hiking boots, wind jacket (possibly gore-tex) waterproof hooded windbreaker, backpack, water bottle, flashlight, hat and gloves, wool or fleece, sunglasses, long pants and “stacks”, sun protection cream, camera, binoculars. During excursions it can be cold so it is recommended to dress in layers.

€ 115 per person (2 days / 1 night)

    Transport and transfers, the lunch into the mountain hut and anything not mentioned in “The price includes”;

Appointment in Pescasseroli, n Via Piave 9, arrival at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday

Program

First day
arrival in PESCASSEROLI at 10.30 a.m., meeting with the guide at the office of Ecotur. Excursion to learn about the habitat, prey and signs of the wolf presence. Evening excursion “on the tracks of the wolf” to try to listen to the howling. Dinner of local products and overnight stay.

Second day
08.30 breakfast and to followhike through forests and wide clearings to know and investigate the centuries-old relationship / conflict man-wolf. Walking along the trails of wolves, visiting their territory. Lunch at hut. Expected return at 4.00 p.m. and departure to the place of origin.
