at school under the tree, environmental education programs in the Lake Penne Regional Nature Reserve
Environmental education is a complex knowledge, it summarizes and amalgamates a scientific knowledge of the environmental reality, also considering the relationship that man establishes with the environment itself with which he directly or indirectly comes into contact.
Environmental education becomes active when it leads to awareness of the consequences that human actions cause and when it leads to taking positions with respect to nature.
Ecological thought aims to question the old theoretical and scientific assumptions related to man’s domination and exploitation of nature, calling into question anthropocentric and ethnocentric visions that characterize technological progress and production development.
Environmental education helps to form a critical and problematic mind. “The teaching objectives of environmental education, therefore, must be to consider the environment in its entirety (both the natural aspects and those derived from human activities), to establish a relationship between awareness of the environment, the acquisition of knowledge, the ability to solve problems and clarify values, help students identify environmental aspects and impacts, place emphasis on the complexity of problems and the need to develop a critical sense and the indispensable knowledge for solving problems such problems”.
“Field” experiences offer students the opportunity to directly experience activities that have a very low impact on the environment.
Compared to the “classic” lessons held in the classroom, students are much more stimulated to grow their own civic and social awareness relating to the protection of the environment and its management.
The COGECSTRE cooperative, in collaboration with Wolftour, with the project “At school under the tree” offers guided tours of the Penne Lake Reserve, screenings and educational meetings in schools.
To carry out some specific programmes, COGECSTRE makes use of the collaboration of both Wolftour and the coop. Samara, ensuring the quality of interventions through coordination and control activities on the educational project.
