A day with a sheperd

You will become a sheperd for a day. You will go trekking along a part of an ancient mountain path with a real and expert shepherd, with his flocks and sheepdogs, learning the basis of this craft: how to recall the animals, how to manage and feed them etc. You will visit the magnificent mountain medieval  village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio and, after having a lunch based on typical local products, you will prepare and taste cheese and other daily produces. At the end of the day, you will have learn all the secrets of sheep-farming, in the event that you would leave your daily routine and change your job…

Transhumance is the seasonal movement of Abruzzo’s sheperds with their livestock between fixed summer and winter pastures. Choosing these unbelievable itineraries near Gran Sasso, you will walk through their ancient paths, surrounded by the amazing panoramas described by the famous poet Gabriele D’Annunzio.
